About UConn TorringtonThe University of Connecticut at Torrington offers a high quality and valued academic experience to people in Litchfield County and the Farmington Valley. The 100 acre campus is located in a quiet rural setting on the western outskirts of the city of Torrington and consists of the M. Adela Eads Classroom Building, the Litchfield County Cooperative Extension Service Building, and ample parking. A hi-tech classroom, a learning center, an art studio, computer rooms, a UConn Co-op bookstore, a 250 seat auditorium, a student lounge, and a cafeteria are all part of the facility. A 17,000 volume library subscribes to about 25 journals, periodicals, and newspapers, and provides access to all other UConn libraries, as well as to public libraries and the libraries of other schools. The student population is approximately 400, and the student to faculty ratio is 10 to 1. Accessibility of faculty and quality of instruction are the cornerstones of the Torrington Campus's academic excellence. Student activities at the campus are sponsored by the Associated Student Government (ASG), and have included such events as pizza parties, scavenger hunts, bus trips, and a Spring Fling to celebrate the end of the school year. ASG also sponsors and assists with various community service events including a Red Cross Blood Drive and local food drives. The Torrington Campus is actively involved in many aspects of the local community, including economic development and the arts. The Torrington Campus is also the home of the Litchfield County Writers Project which, in addition to housing a collection of the published works of Litchfield County authors, includes programs and seminars by and about those authors. |
